Type of Address in Networking term.

1-IP Address or logical address
An IP address is an identifier for a computer or device on a TCP/IP network. Its a unique 32 bit  numeric No. which is used to addressing in network layer.

E.g.: 192.168.1.1

2-Physical address or Mac addres:

An unique address of any device (Network adapter, Lan card). It used in 2nd layer (data link layer). Its a 48 bit Hexadecimal no.

E.g. 12:H5:AA:58:FG:2K

3-Broadcast and multicast addresses:

A broadcast address is a special Internet Protocol (IP) address used to transmit messages and data packets to network systems. Network administrators (NA) verify successful data packet transmission via broadcast addresses.

E.g. 255.255.255.255.

Multicast address  Datagrams with multicast address are simultaneously transmitted to one or more multicast host groups onetworked computers. Multicast addresses range from 224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255.
Reserve IPV4 addresses below.
  • 224.0.0.0: Base address reserved
  • 224.0.0.1: Used for all multicasting host groups
  • 224.0.0.2: Used for all subnet routers
  • 224.0.0.5 and 224.0.0.6: Used by Open Shortest Path First, an interior gateway protocol for all network segment routing information
